Why doesnt Chile pay more attention to their lithium market

Most of todays technology that is battery powered, is done so with lithium ion batteries  The compound has been used in the creation of heat-resistant methamphetamine, ceramics and alloy for aircraft. It also sees effective use as a mood stabilizer and treatment for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).  Is the power goten by a rechargable battery really the way to go.  Like, wont their be power issues some day.  Well just so you know, the be of lithium, and its value goes up with ever ipod, laptop, blackbery, and vibrator sold.

Whether the motive is gas prices, a desire to lower one’s carbon footprint, or a reluctance to encourage enriching nations in the inwardness East, necessitate has make headwayd for hybrid vehicles. The ONLY practical option for rechargeable vehicles is the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery.  I know Toyota, is delaying their installations of lithium batteries with non corrosive parts in side.  The technology will keep the batteries from catching fire and blowing up.

And there are aging issues with Li-ion batteries and the technology to recycle them is not in place. These challenges have researchers at hundreds of companies competing to perfect their version of the battery. But what makes Li-ion batteries so perfect for cars is that they are lightweight and can put in more than twice the amount of energy (110 –130 watt hours per kilogram) when compared to its largest contender, nickel-metal-hydride (NiMh) batteries.  Lithium batteries give out a high rare of power and a low weight for a great power to weight ratio.

The society anticipates that demand will increase fivefold to meet the needs of electric vehicles. The new facility is slated to open in the spring – the same time the company expects to launch its Mitsubishi I-MiEV electronic compress car.  Nissan will use li-ion batteries in 65 thousand of their hybrids they hope to produce this year.  Most of the next generation hybrids like GM’s beset Volt and Saturn Vue Green Line, and Mercedes (DAI 48.82 ↑2.24%)’ hybrid version of its S-Class sedan, are planning to use Li-ion batteries. roughly the element although not uncommon, lithium reckons in low concentrations and is typically interwoven (IWOV 16 ↑0.00%) with other minerals.

The worlds largest commercial deposits of lithium are in Chile and Argentina.  China, Russia, Australia and the U.S. are working to pickup yield. And the amount of lithium carbonate required for a car battery is about 100 times that needed for a laptop. seat line? Lithium demand will skyrocket as more and more hybrids roll down the assembly line. Current processing potential is limited, making it vulnerable to market disruption. And limited supplies could mean big profits for lithium miners and processors. You want to be a strategic commodity investor witht the current market conditions.  Its possible for this renewable technology bubble to be jsut that, a bubble about to recess.

New lithium battery manufactures are popping up left rite and center in china, and these crazy people don’t even ware seat.  I gauge its a good way to keep the population down ah.  The competition is fierce and it’s difficult to know who will come out on top. as an alternative, for our lead off pick, we are departure directly to the source… Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (ADR (630.52 ↑1.18%)) (NYSE:SQM (32.6 ↑1.18%)) is based in Chile and is a ahead(p) producer of lithium carbonate. The company also sells strength plant nutriment products, iodines and derivatives and other industrial chemicals. This past October, the company reported a revenue growth of 56% for the first 9 months of 2008 when compared to the same period in 2007 .
