Three Recent Trends in Interior Design

When it comes to interior design, things are always shifting. Looks come and go. You might love them or you might detest them, but the trick is picking the one thatsuits your home and your style best. Here are three really different trends that are common now. If you’re ready for a change, they just may inspire you to take action.

THE MINIMALIST LOOK
Interior design professionals will almost certainly always have clients who want this look. It changes subtly from year to year, but the fundamentals remain in clean lines, purposeful objects and lack of clutter. You can do your own home decorating and easily copy this popular home theme. Begin with clear walls and natural looking flooring, such as stone, marble or wood. Everything you have in the home should be kept to a minimum and have a purpose. For example, in the master bedroom, you should place a bed with basic bedding, two end tables displaying sleek lamps and a fabulous rug. Closet doors should match the walls if possible. Keep wall colors mild in tones of white and pale grays or greens. Bring a handful of pieces of art in and an interesting book or statue, but no more than that!

GOING GREEN OR THE ECO LOOK
This look is very popular in interior design in our modern times. The going green or eco-friendly look could actually be cousins with the minimalist look. Again, clean lines and not a lot of extras. You would, however, use tons of natural fibers through the house. Wood floors from sustainable or reclaimed sources, scattered rugs made from numerous organic fibers, recycled glass and re-purposed furniture should all be included into your home decorating plans. An eco living room, for example, could begin with wood flooring made from sustainable sources, organic paint in warm colors for the walls and recycled windows. Add furniture, pillows, curtains, throws and a great rug, all created from natural fabrics and you are set. Don’t forget to light your beeswax candles to create the perfect mood in your eco room!

GO BRIGHT
Bright is popular in interior design this year. Imagine the tones of fiestaware dishes or an artist’s palette and you will be on the right track. Paint your walls in attractive colors like sunflower yellow, crimson red, sunny orange and various blues and purples. Intersperse the color palettethroughout your home. For example, your dining room walls would look astounding in crimson red. Add a farm style dining table and upbeat dining room chairs each flaunting a unique color borrowed from your color theme, and then dress them in alternating chair cushions. Throw in a stunning chandelier, vibrant and colorful wall art, armloads of sunflowers and baby roses and a vibrant buffet to complete your bright look!

No matter what whichdesign you select, your house will feel more exciting just by creating a change.
