A pond skimmer is an effective tool to remove twigs, leaves and other debris that gets accumulated on the surface or sometimes inside the mechanical filter that is present in the middle of your gardens Calgary pond. A pond skimmer not only provides a filter basket and a secondary mechnical filtration mat, but pond skimmers also provide housing for your pump. Pond Skimmer Installation- How to Install Algreen’s Pond Skimmer.

1. Make a whole adjacent to your pond such that these holes are large enough to accommodate pond skimmer box. Make sure the bottom of the skimmer hole is compacted and level. Place the skimmer into the hole and backfill. Leveling of skimmer box is important both from side to side and front to back. When you’re finished the normal water level is ¾” to 1 ½” below the top of the weir opening.

2. Carefully connect the pond skimmer with pond liner making sure that the liner is at least one inch away from the skimmer box. A small sack liner can be allowed beneath the weir opening.

3.Reassemble the weir onto the skimmer box with the pond liner (purchased separately) sandwiched between the weir assembly and skimmer box. Find the top two corner mounting holes. Locate pre-drilled weir plate and liner after which you need to use a nail or awl to carefully punch hole where the mounting screws are present. After you have inserted the blackened screws, make sure that you check the alignment. The pond liner should fit comfortably.

4. Start by this dissembling and applying a silicon sealant that is fish safe around the weir opening and follow by screwing holes to reassemble. Insert screws and tighten nuts in the following order — 1. Top two corners, 2. Bottom two corners, 3. Remaining holes.

5.Take the two barb-head fittings that are provided and tightly screw them into the bulkhead fitting in the back of the pond skimmer filter. An additional waterfall pump can be attached at the back of skimmer.
Only make use of clamps and non-kink tubing to connect barb-head fitting.
