Our earth is troubled more and more every day as a result of pollution and due to how much waste people produce. The problem is that most people don’t even recognize that they are totally wasting our resources. For each man or women on our planet, just under 4 liters of water is squandered daily. Statistics average that this shows that over 8 billion liters are being wasted each day by our global society.
Recently I was visiting some relatives in Northern California. On the way back I stayed at one of the beautiful Carmel hotels and while there read an article about one of the Carmel inns that had implemented some new ways to conserve water. I thought it might be great to cover some of the things I picked up. In this article we are going to focus on a number of ways that water is being wasted, and also a few simple things you can do to help stop the waste. Generally there are a couple things that don’t require much effort that needs simply to be taken into account.
One of the means men and women are using up water is when they are brushing their teeth. At first this might seem absurd but if many people did this, it would quickly add up to be a big saving. Considering that billions of people brush their teeth daily, this is quite a considerable amount of water. Many people brush their teeth twice, once in the am as well as once at night. Now 90% of people when brushing his or her teeth, leave the water running while brushing. Just under 8 liters of water is squandered in about 3 minutes to the sewage ducts which is an enormous waste. If we perform the math again, billions of people doing this could account for huge water loss globally. Just about all this wastage in water can be avoided by turning off the tap while brushing your teeth.
Yet another thing that people do to waste water is definitely their washing. Currently I recognize you need to do laundry. But it undoubtedly can be done more efficiently. Try not to run a full wash for a small amount of clothing such as a couple shirts or jeans. The wash and rinse cycle uses on average about 30 gallons of water, no matter the amount of items are being cleaned. In order to save this water basically make sure you adjust the water level on the washer so your only using the amount of water you have to use instead of using a full load of water. You may possibly also just wait until you have a full load of laundry to wash.
And lastly, water is getting wasted on a daily basis by people washing their cars. While I recognize the value of having a clean auto and it can actually help your car last longer which in turn helps the planet, you do not need to waste so much water. Never leave the water running while you’re washing your car, you can waste up to 100 gallons of water every time you wash your car and leave the water running the whole time. Try and take your vehicle for being washed at a car wash regularly. They typically reuse the water so that minimal water is kept unused.
