Herbs as a Pest Control

You should be using your gardening passion effectively and plant herbs to effectively control your pest problem. 

Natural Insect Control Methods 

Not many might realize that when nature strikes, nature also provides solutions . The same goes with bug prevention. Most people would primarily think of pesticide as the only means of controlling pests when they start to attack. There a number of plant species that can be used to control pests.

 Herbs can effectively put an end to your problems with rats. You might be surprised by this statement but nature can explain everything. Natural systems when left alone find balance – every species interacts with its natural environment and the same goes for pests, all we have to do is find their natural enemies.

 Herbs and plants contain active ingredients that can disrupt the system of most rats. Not only that, it ensures faster kill for these annoying rats and insects.

 Herbs That Fight Off rats

  All you need to do to control your pest problem is stop off at the local gardening store. Add the following items to your shopping list and you will soon eliminate most if not all of your pest problems:

 In your fight to keep your house pest-free, you need to know what types of herbs are effective against certain types of rats. Planting insect-killing herbs in your garden will bring you the following practical benefits: 

1.         You will be able to plant herbs that you will find useful later on for purposes such as aromatic, culinary, or medicinal . 

2.         Herbs are a lot cheaper than pesticides!. 

3.         Herbs are far healthier to use than pesticides, pouring destructive chemical substances into your soil can have adverse side effects. 

Mint as Bug Control 

When thinking about which herbs to plant in your garden, mint should secure the top of your list . Be sure to examine what the different varieties of mint are most effective:

 

-           Peppermint – this particular type of mint effectively controls lice, ants, flies, moths, and lice

-           Pennyroyal – this type of mint deals with pests such as gnats, lice, moths, ticks, and ants

-           Spearmint – this one wards off most of the pests listed above

 

Since mints have been proven effective against these annoying pests, you can try planting them in front of your house or by the doorway .  That way, you can stop most pests from gaining access into your home . Because mints have the tendency to grow out of control, it is best to plant them in a pot . 

Mints are extremely easy to grow, they will do well in both shade and sun. However, you do have to keep them moist if you want to keep them healthy . 

Basil as Bug Control 

Basil is a common herb used for culinary purposes . However, it is also an herb that effectively controls rats, particularly the bush basil. Basil is most effective in warding off flies . In fact, folk stories say that it is a tactic for Italian cooking to keep tomatoes and basil together in preparing their recipes so as to ward off flies that could potentially swarm fresh tomatoes . 

For planting basil (as with mint), you can plant it by the doorway. This way your home will be filled with the lovely smell of basil while fighting off flies at the same time.

 Citronella as Insect Control 

If you are currently in an ongoing battle against mosquitoes, then planting Citronella might finally put an end to the problem. You can use its essential oil and the scent it produces to permeate your direct surroundings. To do that, simply mix a few drops of the Citronella’s essential oil. The smell produced will be very unpleasant to the mosquitoes and they will be discouraged to come anywhere near your house. 

You must concentrate on the entrance of the house to lessen the possibility of pests invading your entire home. Then, pour some drops of the oil into the hems of the curtains. If the curtains are blown by the wind, it will carry that smell which drives the mosquitoes away.
